On most days you will be working overtime, whether by a few minutes or at the most a couple of hours. The most patients I think I’ve seen in the 9-12 hour span was 37 patients, the least being 10. With that being said you will see a lot of patients or at least more than an inpatient facility scribe or clinic scribe might see (correct me if I’m wrong I’ve never been in your positions but I’m making an assumption ). If I were to work in medicine ,trauma would’ve probably been it and this was as close as I was gonna get. I think on a lot of days I was finding myself being bored because as anyone working in the ED might be aware, not all cases are actually Emergencies. The ER is very fast paced when you first begin and it will be stressful at first but give yourself 3 months and it’ll be ok. I thought I was passionate about medicine but i think It was actually infatuation and interest of a new experience. If you’re trying to figure out if medicine is for you, please use this experience to do so! You wont regret it in the end. When I started scribing 7 months ago I wanted to get my foot in the door of medicine which btw this is by far one the BEST ways to do that. Today is my final day of working as an ER scribe. I want to start off by adding a disclaimer by saying my experiences may be unique to the experience of others because we’re all different people in different places ,this isn’t a guarantee of what will happen or what to expect but just an account on the way I felt throughout all of this and the experiences I went though.
